INTRODUCTION
This viseum is all about the generation of
light, infrared- and ultraviolet radiation
with help of electricity, in order to create
an artificial sun substitute. Infrared
radiation may be obtained by heating up
a solid through an electric current
(section 2 of this building) while ultraviolet
radiation may be obtained by producing
an arc discharge in air or an arc- or glow
discharge in a gas (section 3 of this
building). Both heat- and sunlamps emit
photons in this processes and
understanding the physical processes
within a heat lamp or a sunlamp requires
some common understanding of the phenomena "electric current" and "photon
emission", items that will be covered in section 1, the current section of this building.
Please be aware that most of the models that will be presented here, are only a
simplification of physical reality and serve mainly to clarify the magic of electricity and
radiation within the context of sun- and heat lamps like the Siemens Heimsonne 2000
on display here. Electric configurations of sunlamps and heat lamps and ignition
techniques for electric discharges will be covered in section 4 and 5 of this building.
